"Fifty-Six is a restaurant that every neighbourhood should (or would like to) have on hand. It's a modern european/French bistro that charges very decent prices, is staffed by very friendly people, has a small rotating list of specials and a solid list of standards, and even has good, inexpensive, house wine.

Their steak and frites, in particular, is excellent. Your steak order comes with just the steak, forcing you to get sides, but it is a very tender, juicey , generous cut of meat. They should be proud of their butchers, because I'm sure many other restuarants would fight to serve the same meat and charge you much more for it.

All their food is solid, and though it probably won't win any awards for originality, the service and homliness of the place really help warm the heart. I've moved out of the area and still make an effort to go back every few months. Do book on weekends because other people recognise Fifty-Six's value as well."

"I have eaten in Fifty Six 3 or 4 times in the last couple of months and felt I should take the time to say what a wonderful restaurant I have always found it to be. The staff are fantastic and the food is always delicious. I love the specials board as there is always something new to try and Sunday Roast is a must!

Excellent value for money and definitely recommended!!"

"Overall eating at 56 was a great experience. The food was obviously fresh and the service was perfect. The menu was similar to a couple of places I have eaten in along on Upper Street and 56 was as good as any of them. I would recommend going there to anyone."

"A charming eaterie with a rustic and authentic feel. Quite what that authenticity is i'm not sure but the food is great and the wine list more than compliments the extensive menu. Fantastic value for money on the Sunday Lunch front but get in early beacuse it goes quickly. Check out the courtyard at the back (lovely on a summers night), and the window seat at the front. Friendly staff give 56 a homley and relaxed vibe, a pleasure every time."
